Auto-Expander™Why we invented and developed the technology for the
Auto-Expander™

Legacy systems: Hand-stuffing paper:
Stuffing paper has been used for hundreds of years to fill out the form for each handbag or luggage. It is convenient to use, and has been made readily available over the centuries from paper jobbers in the USA and worldwide including the Orient. Stuffing paper utilizes cubic space inefficiently. Our calculation is that that the cost to ship a cubic foot, of any material is approximately $3.63 per cubic foot of space used. When small handbags use two or three cubic feet of space, large handbags and luggage use far more. For example, a typical smaller sized handbag ( in today’s
fashion world) stuffed with balls of easily-crushed stuffing paper, would use about three cubic feet ,and cost about $11 for transportation cost from the bag factory to the individual store. When bags filled with the easily-crushed stuffing paper arrive in the retail store store clerks invariably unzip each bag to re-expand the now-crushed, formless, stuffing paper.

Efficient eye-pleasing Auto-Expanders™ feature support triangles
Barclay Brown Auto-Expanders™, .are made of cardboard with light-weight efficient springs. The Expanders fold into a very compact efficient space inside your bag. . When the bag is opened, the Auto Expanders™ support the outer shell of your handbags with numerous small support triangles. The triangles hold a limited amount of the bag fabric under tension. When this is repeated over the entire surface of the bag, the bag looks the way the designer intended.

Handbags stand, on their own, to sell off counters and shelves
Auto-Expanders™ enable handbags to stand up and be visible, offering a full, firm yet soft-to-the-touch presence. Only Barclay Brown offers this remarkable improvement over the centuries-old hand-stuffing paper. Our re-order business is directly attributable to this important visibility and soft, firm-feeling advantage.

Versatile Designs for a single bag
We design for individual bags or a large series at one sitting. We can suit the needs of your company.

Air balloons
Recently a few companies have used plastic, air-filled balloons, to create a retail presentation. Balloons cannot fill the outlines of the bag as required by fashion designers. The balloons can be punctured easily by a child or by accident, lose air over time permitting the bag to gradually fade-away.
